Social activist Rajkumar Rajeevkanth has stated in a Facebook post that Saudi Arabia’s Supreme Court has overturned the death sentence imposed on Sri Lankan national Anojan Sivarasa.

He wrote that the Supreme Court delivered the ruling on October 13, 2026.

Rajkumar Rajeevkanth has shared information about Anojan’s case and assisted his family from its early stages. He had previously stated that Amnesty International had also made representations to the Saudi government on Anojan’s behalf.

Anojan was initially sentenced to five years in prison in a case involving an allegation that a comment posted on social media insulted the Prophet Muhammad. Saudi Arabia’s Court of Appeal subsequently sentenced him to death.

An appeal against that sentence was filed with the Supreme Court on October 11, 2026, through a joint effort by Sri Lankan and Saudi lawyers.

Rajkumar Rajeevkanth’s latest post now reports that the death sentence has been overturned. However, the full details of the court’s ruling, whether an alternative sentence has been imposed, and the status of Anojan’s release have not yet been confirmed.
